Toolbars: First of all, you want to monitor what kinds of things your children are downloading onto the computer. Some toolbars may appear helpful, as in enhancing your Internet browsing. In fact, they can be monitoring or tracking your surfing. MyWay searchbar is an example of a Toolbar. It is supported by pop-ups and banner ads. Some pop-ups are helpful, like to enlarge a screen. But others can open with inappropriate content or a way for you to download dangerous software ( spyware or adware).

Other Programs to Avoid:

Banner Ads:  Please don’t click on these, we can assure you that you won’t win an X-Box!

Pop-Ups:  click off immediately. Pop-Ups can trigger phishing attacks, where personal information can be tracked, such as a password or credit card information.

Also, you must protect your computer with anti-virus software.  More info on security software can be found on our Recomended Software Solutions Page.  Without anti-virus software, your expensive investment may end up in the trash. Any anti-virus program needs to be updated weekly, and run scheduled scans at least once a week.  After all, you wouldn’t run  your car without oil.
